Overview
At The British School of Body Piercing, we believe that you need to learn so much more than the actual piercing to become an excellent, professional piercer.
The course covers: specialist equipment, health & safety (including blood borne pathogens, anaesthetics and sharps handling), piercing theory (the reasons behind the methods), the biology of piercing, healing and aftercare as well as valuable components on running a small business, psychology and strategy of business marketing and creating an effective brand identity. There are then 3 days of practical (supervised) piercing on live clients (provided by the school) with a written examination on the penultimate day of the course. The final day of the course holds a practical assessment where trainees will perform piercings on live clients and are marked on their competence and safety as well as on customer care.
On average, each course includes 60-100 live piercings. We book the client piercings in order of difficulty so that trainees begin with simple piercings to gain experience and confidence and move on to the more technical piercings later. Whilst one trainee sits their written examination, the other completes the most difficult piercings on clients so that supervision can be highly focused and one to one to ensure that each trainee gets what they need from their practical training. On a course with 2 trainees there will be roughly 30 - 50 piercings per student on real clients. This is in addition to any students who wish to have piercings whilst on the course. We have built a loyal and reliable client base for trainee piercers such that if there are specific areas of low confidence, extra piercings can be booked for trainees at short notice so that every trainee leaves with the confidence that they can perform piercings in their own business safely. We also provide ongoing support throughout the working life of our trainees and link graduates with each other on completion of the course so that peer to peer support can be sought where needed.
This level of practical experience and support is what makes the BSBP course the Gold Standard in piercing training, students will experience as many live piercings as they would be able to expect in a year-long apprenticeship.
On completion of the course, students leave with confidence and knowledge in the art and the science of body piercing, as well as business and marketing. The diploma awarded at the end of the course is recognised by legal advisors, licensing bodies, professional associations, insurers and suppliers in the industry. It is our hope that the BSBP standards will continue to influence lawmakers in the journey towards proper and efficient regulation of piercers in the UK.
No piercing guns are used on our courses.
